Haunted by the memory of Walter Holderlin, a soldier he killed during World War I, French musician Paul Renard (Phillips Holmes) confesses to a priest (Frank Sheridan), who grants him absolution. Using the address on a letter he found on the dead man's body, Paul then travels to Germany to find his family.
  As anti-French sentiment continues to permeate Germany, Dr. Holderlin (Lionel Barrymore) initially refuses to welcome Paul into his home, but changes his mind when his son's fiancée Elsa identifies him as the man who has been leaving flowers on Walter's grave. Rather than reveal the real connection between them, Paul tells the Holderlin family he was a friend of their son, who attended the same musical conservatory he did.
  Although the hostile townspeople and local gossips disapprove, the Holderlins befriend Paul, who finds himself falling in love with Elsa (Nancy Carroll). When she shows Paul her former fiancé's bedroom, he becomes distraught and tells her the truth. She convinces him not to confess to Walter's parents, who have embraced him as their second son, and Paul agrees to forego easing his conscience and stays with his adopted family. Dr. Holderlin presents Walter's violin to Paul, who plays it while Elsa accompanies him on the piano.
  The film's original title, The Man I Killed, was changed to The Fifth Commandment to avoid giving "wrong impressions in the minds of the public about the character of the story." It ultimately was released as Broken Lullaby.

“我的儿子正前往送死的路上,我却在为他欢呼!”观影过程中一直默默将刘别谦《我杀的那位》和欧容《弗兰兹》进行比较,有趣的是,前者是德国导演拍法国视角,默片及早期有声片所特有的皆大欢喜式妥协;后者是法国导演拍德国视角,两段旅程的情感张弛,含蓄蕴藉而回味悠长;共同之处在于反战是基调,以及敏感忧伤的帅气男主角。

我杀了那位,我便成为那位。我把你永久留在法国,我就替你往后留在德国。看齐泽克的《事件》讲架构、重构于建构一章延伸来看的,很被打动。而且还是一个反战主题,放在当下观看、更是格外合适。Elsa和Paul在Walter父母充满关爱的凝望下幸福地在一起了,这种凝望为他们的爱情提供了幻想的架构。在这种架构中,我们可以作为一个整体去体验自身生活的真实一面,那么当幻想解体时呢?只有灾难性的后果。我不敢脑补往后那么多年,若是Walter父母发现了这个真相,会是怎样。并且他们若以上帝视角跳脱出自身去自我审视,或许也可能意识到自己这样的行动是无意义的。拉康说,对幻想的切断并不意味着从幻想中抽身而出,而是接受它的矛盾性。在剧中,这样的矛盾性是指Elsa和Paul都清楚地明白他的身份,并且为了父母,继续将戏演下去吗

为了看瘸腿士兵的取景角度。早期电影真的还蛮容易发现摄影机存在的,表演也很浮夸,但剧本挺有意思的,国家间的仇恨投射在个体身上,我不知道为何杀了那个人我想要救赎,但最后处理还是过于简单美好了。

开场甚是惊艳。大街上伤兵断腿下的鼓乐行进,教堂中格格不入的士官佩刀,祈祷时突兀成排的军靴马刺,礼毕人去后空空如也的教堂坐席上只露出一双互握的手掌,镜头锁定开始推进……所谓惊艳,首先在于它的艺术想象力,特别是断腿取景视角!刘别谦名言:摄影机千种摆法但只有一种是对的;教堂部分“坐满vs独留”的高反差也似乎影响过卡赞萨巴塔传中马龙白兰度的亮相?再就是它所释放的“世人不知反思枪炮依然长鸣”的轮回警讯在八年后得到应验——二战爆发法国沦陷!……相比之下,后面展开的这个法国人保罗赴德寻求宽恕的故事,不仅本身显得过于平淡张力不够,而且由于受到了警世悲情和幸福结局的制约,导演的轻触天才也很难得以有效施展。比如难缠的情敌与喜好八卦的镇民所演绎的开窗曲,都算轻喜剧的标配单元,可搁在本片中既显违和又欠呼应……三星半。

一个法国士兵,因在战争中杀死了一个德国士兵,良心一直受到折磨,于是来到德国士兵的家中,试图向德国士兵的父母坦白,希望获得原谅,却爱上了他的未婚妻。应该属于刘別谦的反战片,对战争进行了较深刻的反思,特别是莱昂纳尔·巴里摩尔的一番台词。虽然不是喜剧,但刘別谦的触动依然可见。

有点遗憾的是影片似乎还是有点突然地就结束了,善意的谎言能顾及一时,但能是长久之计吗?Elsa能否真的放下心结呢?男主Philip Holmes真的是非常英俊,但演技会有点出戏,而老父母亲和未婚妻的演技都非常的自然动人:Lionel barrymore老戏骨炉火纯青、既能幽默也能感人,elsa得知真相时的表演似乎也很合理,母亲取手帕又放回的镜头看得哽咽了、克制却无比真挚的悲伤。刘别谦的电影里真的非常多细节啊。

与以往的刘别谦完全不一样。我们送孩子们上战场送死并为此欢呼。未曾设想的反思角度,切入点非常微妙,看完令人心中五味杂陈、心碎潸然,诸多思绪难以言表。谁才是杀死孩子们的人?谁要为战争负责?仇恨与爱与救赎,尽在一曲合奏中。

看了这部,欧容确实将里面的感情线和一些细节刻画的更细腻,但老版也很不错,熟练的剧情节奏,令人心碎且无奈的战争,这部片里的刘别谦触动有点少,更像是为了反一战而拍的电影

刘别谦,听我说声对不起,你真是太全能了!这部反战片拍得太好了,可能跟他经历过那个时代也有关系吧!最惊艳的是开头胜利游行,机位是从士兵两腿之间平拍,也暗示着普通士兵没脑子被驱使性命被践踏吧!然后就是伤病被胜利的炮火吓到。最后众军官在教堂,又是一个低机位,拍他们闪闪亮的皮鞋,最后只剩下忏悔的保罗一人在空旷的教堂,反思战争和人性的,大概只是人群中的寥寥几人吧!第二就是莱昂纳尔巴里摩尔扮演的老父亲,丧子之痛、德国人对法国人的敌意,误以为是独子好友那种喜悦之情,还有在小酒馆里对战争的反思,我们恨着敌人,可谁把我们年轻的孩子送上的战场,谁在庆祝牺牲他们得来的胜利!最后,保罗告知Elsa他其实是杀害沃尔特的凶手,Elsa告诉他保守秘密不要走,让老夫妇二人听他拉琴,唉,太伤了!还有沃尔特妈妈和邻居在墓地对话

一位良心备受震撼的“平庸之恶”拒绝用平庸之恶来解决忏悔之意义和为罪责开脱,刘别谦对战争的反思也没有止步于微妙触动,一曲破碎的摇篮曲变奏为真正救赎的镇魂歌,也蕴含着美好的希望和可能的解答解救之道。

2022013 三星半,欧容《弗兰兹》翻拍于此,也在本片疏于着墨的情感线上做了细腻的扩充。而对于刘别谦来说,在擅长的歌舞喜剧题材之外本片亦是其镜语能力的集中展现,尤其是蒙太奇的熟练运用,无论是影像上的还是声音上的,都令人印象深刻。

刘别谦在声音的领悟与运用上的确有独到之处,保罗与艾尔莎出现在街道上,附近店铺和住户的门铃开始交替响起,它延展了人物的活动与情绪空间。当艾尔莎把保罗领带到华尔特房间时,拉抽屉的声音,钟表一直滴滴答答的声音,又让空间逐渐压缩起来。影片在情绪的把控上属一流,适可而止而又不显蜻蜓点水,相比较起来,欧容的《弗兰兹》就显得用力过猛了。
